Membership Benefits
Benefit highlights include:

    Membership Categories
    Individuals may apply for active or candidate membership in the SSAT, based on the following guidelines:

    Active Member $155.00 annually
    Applicant must:
  • have a degree from a medical school acceptable to the Board of Trustees,
          AND
  • be licensed to practice medicine in his/her state, province or county,
          AND
  • be certified by a board that is a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or by an equivalent body.
       OR
  • be a career scientist with an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree from an institution acceptable to the Board of Trustees,
          AND
  • have an interest in the surgical aspects of digestive diseases.



    Candidate Member $80.00 annually
    Applicant must:
  • be not more than 4 years out of residency (includes all non-North American residents),
          AND
  • have an interest in the surgical aspects of digestive diseases


    Candidate/Resident Member $20.00 annually
    Applicant must:
  • be a resident in a surgical training program or GI Fellowship,
          AND
  • reside in the United States or Canada,
          AND
  • have an interest in the surgical aspects of digestive diseases

    Candidate members are eligible to apply for Active membership status following certification by a board that is a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or by an equivalent body.

    Membership shall not be denied because of race, creed, color, or sex.

    Application for membership shall be made on a form furnished by the Secretary of the Society. The application must be signed and accompanied by a letter from an Active or Senior member of the Society, describing the candidate's ethical, professional, and personal qualifications.
    One is eligible for Candidate Membership after three years of clinical training in a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Candidate Members are eligible to apply for active membership status after receiving certification by a board that is a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or by an equivalent body.

    Annual Dues
    Active Member- $155.00 annually.
    Licensed and board-certified MD or career scientist (MD, PhD) with an interest in the surgical aspects of digestive diseases.

    Candidate/Resident Member- $80.00 annually.
