Purpose
The SSAT Public Service Award recognizes an individual or organization from the lay community that has impacted the public by promoting or creating awareness of gastrointestinal health.
Eligibility Criteria
The recipient should have dedicated considerable time and/or expertise to significantly impact the advancement of the lay public to understand or cope with problems of gastrointestinal health. Individuals/Organizations from the public as well as from the private sectors are eligible. This award is to be presented only when an exceptional candidate is brought to the attention of the selection committee.
Nominations
To be eligible for consideration for the 2012 SSAT Public Service Award, the following materials must be submitted to the Society's Administrative Offices no later than October 31, 2011:
- A letter of recommendation from an SSAT member that summarizes the specific accomplishments of the nominee; and
- The curriculum vitae of the individual or resume of the organization.

Selection is based upon detailed documentation of contributions, credentials, and/or achievements of the nominee(s). Nominations for the 2012 SSAT Public Service Award will first be reviewed by the Executive Committee, with the final decision being made by the SSAT Board of Trustees at its mid-winter meeting. The recipient will be notified shortly thereafter, then presented with an achievement plaque during the 2012 Annual Meeting, at a forum that ensures public exposure.
